Folk Festival underneath Poľana in Detva
(Folklórne slávnosti pod Poľanou)

Starting in the year 1966, the festival has been held annually during the second weekend in July. Festival with its scene in Detva belongs to the most grandiose shows of folk culture in Slovakia. The festival has been the host of folk artists from all regions of Slovakia and a meeting place of thousands of lovers of traditional culture. Lovers of traditional folk culture will certainly find and enjoy lots of attractions during this event! It is not popular only among lovers of folk dance, songs and music but also among lovers of traditional folk arts and lovers of the region of Detva. For three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can enjoy Slovakian traditional folklore together with authentic cuisine. A delight for all the senses, captivating and emotional! Feel the zest for life of a traditional nation in all its glory: fiery mountain music, the characteristic melodies of the lonely shepherds, lively songs and the dancers’ swirling skirts. In addition to this, you can see performances by the Slovak as well as foreign ensembles. Those who admire folk handicraft will surely welcome the live gallery of folk craft art and the competition and creative workshops of folk music instruments. The performances of the dance ensembles are held mainly at the Amphitheatre, which is set in the beautiful nature, however, accompanying activities are spread all around the town of Detva. In the House of Culture of Andrej Sládkovič there you can find smaller performances, various competitions (e.g. Dr. Leng Prize) and exhibitions as well as the realization team of the whole festival. Exhibitions are held also in the Museum of Podpoľanie and the Town Culture Centre. Other individual activities will take place in other places, including the Town Hall, the library, the church, the Primary School of Arts and other places.
